Patricia Ukoli
Graduate Research Assistant
Patricia Ukoli (she/her) is a PhD student in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba, where she also completed her Master of Social Work. Alongside her academic pursuits, she is a practicing social worker, a graduate research assistant with the Village Lab, and works at a community settlement agency. Patricia also serves on the board of directors for the Nine Circles Community Health Centre.
Her research centers on HIV treatment, prevention, and care, with a particular focus on Black communities. With extensive experience in community-based HIV research and advocacy, she applies culturally grounded approaches to address health inequities.
Patricia's PhD dissertation will delve into the perceptions, acceptability, and accessibility of HIV biomedical advancements within African, Caribbean, and Black communities in Manitoba. She also investigates how these elements are shaped by anti-Black racism and HIV stigma.
