Migration and Health Study
The Migration and Health Study aimed to better understand the health and well-being of racialized immigrants and refugees in Manitoba.
The purpose of this project was to facilitate the development of community-based research in the area of migrant sexual health and build capacity among community stakeholders in migrant sexual health in Manitoba.
The specific objectives of this project were:
To conduct a qualitative community-based research study in order to create and advance knowledge on racialized migrants’ sexual health and their susceptibility to HIV/STBBI and other health disparities in Manitoba.
To build research capacity among community stakeholders in migrant sexual health in Manitoba.

Three key themes that emerged from this study included a need for Trauma-Informed Care, Anti-Stigma Campaigns, and for Partnerships and Collaborations in Manitoba.
The sexual health needs figured into our results, in particular highlighting that migrant communities lack access to sexual health information, want sexual health information available at community-based social service agencies, and want that information offered in diverse languages - those spoken by the communities they are intended for.
