Tara Christianson
Graduate Research Assistant
Tara Christianson (she/her) is Red River Métis, citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation, and member of the Bison Local. Tara was born and raised on Treaty One territory and has lived in Winnipeg for the past 19 years. She is a mother, partner, daughter, sister, and auntie.
Tara completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Winnipeg, a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Calgary, and a Master of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. Building on the findings from her master's thesis, Tara began her PhD in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba in September 2025.
Tara’s research is grounded in the knowledge and experiences she has gained from direct practice work within Winnipeg’s mainstream healthcare system as well as having served as a graduate research assistant on multiple community-based research projects through the Village Lab. Her research interests include decolonization, homelessness, substance use, harm reduction, and how these issues intersect and inform health equity and inequalities. Through this, Tara hopes to enhance service delivery and increase culturally safe spaces within healthcare.
